Men's Tennis Prevails 5-2 Versus Norfolk State In The First Of Two Matches In Virginia

Norfolk, VA– The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team picked up a 5-2 victory over Norfolk State Wednesday in its first of two matches in the state of Virginia on the 2017 Spring Break trip.

Cooper Bridge and Gilbert Chung prevailed in no.1 doubles 7-5 over Alcaraz and Da Silva. They also were victorious in their respective singles matches to push their combined record to 8-0 on the trip. Their record now stands at 4-1 when paired up by Coach Johansson this season.

The Highlanders claimed all three doubles matches, highlighted by Nabil Abdallah's and Andy Ju's 6-0 blanking of Dumitrascu and Fernandez in line two doubles.

Sophomore Andy Ju battled back from down a set to earn the match clinching point, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Ju's victory over Guevel was his ninth straight win at the no. 6 spot.

"Solid effort in doubles. We did what we needed to in singles. I feel like that we are playing much better as a team than we were a month ago." said Coach Johansson.

The team remains in the state of Virginia for a Thursday afternoon battle of Highlanders when they face Radford University at noon pacific.
