San Diego, CA–The UC Riverside Softball Team was held to a pair of hits in its 3-0 loss at the University of San Diego Wednesday afternoon.
The Highlanders came into the mid-week match-up averaging 6.6 runs and 8.6 hits a game over the last five contests.
The UCR bats struggled to solve Torero starter Megan Sabbitini, who had a no-hitter going until the top of the sixth, when Maddy Richard had a two-out double down the left field line.
Jenae Lockwood led off the seventh with a single up the middle for the Highlanders second hit the game.
Haley Marschall kept USD to three hits in her two and a third innings of work, but was responsible for the two runs the Toreros scored in the third. Anessa Cepeda finished the final three and two-thirds innings, and allowed a run in the fourth.
The UC Riverside Softball Team opens Big West play at home this weekend against 2016 Conference Champion Cal State Fullerton beginning with a Saturday double-header at 1 pm.
