Men's Tennis Begins Big West Tourney Against Cal Poly Thursday

Indian Wells, CA–The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team readies to take on Cal Poly in the first round of the 2017 Big West Tournament at Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The #6 seeded Highlanders and the #3 Mustangs will do battle on Thursday, April 27 at 9 am.

The Tennis Garden also hosts the BNP Paribas Open, which is one of the largest Professional Tennis Tournaments in the world.

The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team has five players with double-digit singles victories this season, highlighted by Gilbert Chung's 20-9 record. The freshman from Los Angeles enjoyed a 10-match winning streak at the no. 5 position. 

The doubles tandem of Kyle McCann and Max Cohen has a team-best 18-7 mark this season, and has won seven of their last 10 matches.

Senior team captain Cooper Bridge will be playing his final Big West event for the blue and gold. He has 16 singles victories primarily at the no. 1 position, and 12 in doubles play.

UCR last picked up a conference tournament win on April 27, 2007, 10 years ago to the date of tomorrow's opening round match.

The Highlanders squared off against the Mustangs this season in San Luis Obispo, where they fell by a score of 1-6. The winner of Thursday's match will move on to face #2 UC Davis at 3 pm on Friday, April 28. (Tournament bracket)
