Softball Drops Series Finale At CSUN , 6-1

Northridge, CA– For the second time this weekend, the UC Riverside Softball Team was done in by errors and unearned runs. Sunday they fell, 6-1, in the series finale at CSUN, where three of six runs scored by the Matadors were unearned.

The Highlanders got on the board first thanks to Hannah Rodriguez singe up the middle that scored Aneesa Cepeda, who drew a lead-off walk to start the second.

In the third, the Matadors took the lead via a Savannah Horvath two-run homer with two-outs in an inning that was extended by an error on a groundball by the leadoff hitter.

UCR (24-22, 6-9) starter Tayler Misfeldt was relieved after giving up a double to right center to the following hitter favor of Jacy Boles.

Boles allowed the two first batters to reach before she surrendered an RBI single and RBI groundout on consecutive plays causing Coach palmer to go Rebecca Faulkner to finish out the game.

CSUN (29-18, 9-6) added two runs in the fifth, one of them unearned, en route to their 6-1 series clinching victory.

Matadors starter Daphne Pofek moved to 15-7 with the complete-game victory, while Misfeldt fell to 11-6 on the year.

The UC Riverside Softball Team returns to Amy S. Harrison Field next weekend to host Long Beach State May 6-7. Sunday the team will play their pink game in honor of breast cancer awareness.
