Women's Tennis Falls, 5-2, To Grand Canyon Sunday

Women's Tennis Match 4

Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team (1-3) fell, 5-2, to Grand Canyon (4-2) at the SRC Tennis Courts Sunday. 

In doubles, Tia Elpusan and Sara Khattab's pairing notched an early win against Waschuk/Occhipini, 6-4. Tied at one match each in doubles, the doubles point came down to Karla Dulay and Tracy Van's pairing. Dulay and Van came back from a 5-0 deficit to tie the match at 5 all, but fell 7-6 in a tight battle. Grand Canyon took the lead, winning the doubles point.

In singles play, Tracy Van  and Tia Elpusan started the Highlanders off with two victories on No. 5 and No. 4. The Highlanders fell in the following three singles matches, guaranteeing a match win for the Antelopes. In the final matchup of the day, Sara Khattab fought to win another victory for UC Riverside, winning the first set of her match 6-4. Khattab's opponent, Valentina Mokrova, edged her out for the win in the end with a match score of 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
