Women's Soccer Finishes Season With 1-0 Loss to UC Davis

The UC Riverside Women's Soccer team finished its season on Sunday with a 1-0 loss to UC Davis. It marked the end of a promising season in which the team began 10-0-2.

The lone goal UCR allowed came in just the 6th minute of the match when UC Davis played the ball ahead and fought past goalie Laura Perjanik to score with an open net. Annie Bailey replaced Perjanik in the second half.

The team faltered during Big West play with a 2-4-2 record and was eliminated from the conference tournament after a 2-0 loss to Hawai'i on Thursday.

The Highlanders had plenty of opportunities during Sunday's match. In the 14th minute, Darielle O'Brien hit a ball off the post, before a shot by Giselle Preciado off a corner kick went just wide. The shots were a minute apart.

With the lead, UC Davis chose to play back in the second half, leaning on its defense. That helped the Highlanders outshoot the Aggies. UCR had seven shots in the second half, while UC Davis had just two.

In the final 10 minutes, UCR did everything it could to tie the game. The team had five shots and three corner kicks.
