Women's Volleyball Downs CSUN 3-2 on Senior Night

RIVERSIDE, Calif.— The UC Riverside Women's Volleyball Team took the SRC Arena court for the last time this season Saturday night downing CSUN in a five set thriller on Senior night. Although it was the last match for four seniors, it was an career night for one freshman in Marissa Holt.

The 1st set was all Highlanders as despite falling 5-2 to start, UCR would put together a 12-1 tun to jump ahead. The team never looked back taking five of the last seven points to win the set 25-17.

The 2nd set was a much closer contest as the Matadors grabbed a few runs of their own to take a 23-20 lead, but the Highlanders would rally to a 5-0 run to finish the set 25-23.

With their backs against the wall, CSUN would prevail in the 3rd and 4th to tie the overall match at 2-2, forcing a decider.

The Highlanders jumped on the final set quickly going up 6-2 and both teams would trade off points until UCR finished the set 15-11 and the match 3-2. 

Freshman outside hitter Marissa Holt enjoyed a career-high attack performance putting down 25 kills to lead all players. Senior setter Chelsea Doyle found her all night collecting 37 assists and sophomore Nicole Rodriguez led the defensive efforts with 18 digs.

The Highlanders found success with the serve forcing several mistakes with their match-high eight aces.

The Highlanders will now hit the road to finish the season this weekend as UCR visits Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara.
