RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The UC Riverside Women's Volleyball team took a three-set loss to UC Davis Saturday night at the SRC Arena. While the team got out to quick starts in all three sets, the Highlanders were unable to sustain those leads as the sets progressed.
The last time the two teams met, the match went five sets, with the Aggies coming away with the victory after UCR took the first two sets.
The Aggies went on a 7-2 run in the middle of the set that the Highlanders couldn't recover from. While both teams had 10 kills in the set, it was errors that led the Highlanders to a 25-17 loss.
The closest set came in the second. However, the Aggies tallied 17 kills against UCR blockers compared to the team's 12 kills. The Highlanders had a 15-10 lead, but after a UC Davis timeout, the Aggies went on a 10-3 run and eventually won the set 25-21.
UCR stayed near the Aggies the entire third set, getting as close as 20-19, but the team couldn't score another point after that, losing the game and the match 25-20.
The team combined for 31 kills, led by outside hitter Marissa Holt who had seven on the night. Setter Chelsea Doyle also had 22 assists and eight digs.
It my not have been the outcome that the team wanted, but the Highlanders have been quite successful over the last week. The team came in having won two of its last three Big West Conference matches. Friday's five-set win against UC Irvine marked one of the team's signature victories this season.
The team will play Long Beach State on Friday at home before senior night on Saturday at 7 p.m. against CSUN.
