Women's Tennis Matches 6 & 7 |
Las Vegas, NV—The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team (1-6) fell, 4-3, to Colorado State University (3-3) Saturday morning and dropped a 4-1 decision to UNLV (5-3) Saturday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, NV.

Colorado State took the first two doubles matches of the day, securing the doubles point. Karla Dulay and Tracy Van's pairing at the No. 3 position was left unfinished with a score of 3-3.
In singles, Tia Elpusan was victorious in the No. 4 position against opponent Emily Kolbow (6-4, 6-1) and Tracy Van won her No. 6 match (6-2, 6-3) against Solene Crawley. Elpusan and Van both hold a 3-2 record in singles play for 2018.
Despite tying the score at three points each after Lauren Wolfe defeated her No. 5 opponent Emma Corwin (7-5, 6-2), Chloe Pham was edged out by opponent Alyssa Grijalva in the deciding match at the No. 3 position (6-4, 6-4).
"We got off to a very slow start, but came back to play a very good match," said Coach Mark Henry.

The UNLV Rebels took the first doubles match of the day, but the Highlanders battled back winning in the No. 2 and 3 positions. Doubles partners Karla Dulay/Tracy Van and Lauren Wolfe/Tamila Vaksman both defeated their opponents 6-4 to take the doubles point.
The Highlanders weren't able to carry their winning momentum into singles play, however, as they dropped their first four singles matches. Leading 4-1, UNLV claimed the match win. Tia Elpusan's No. 4 match was left unfinished with a score of 6-2, 4-4 against opponent Anna Bogoslavets. Natalie Penner's No. 6 match was also left unfinished despite her tight battle against opponent Jovana Kenic, 6-3, 3-3.
"We started out with some outstanding doubles wins, but UNLV was just better than us in the singles," said Coach Mark Henry.
