20 Highlanders Honored on Fall 2017 Big West Academic All-Conference Team

Riverside, CA – The Big West Fall 2017 Academic All-Conference Team was released earlier this week, recognizing 20 UC Riverside student-athletes from the Highlanders' five fall athletics programs.
Women's Soccer led the way with eight student-athletes receiving recognition, while Women's Cross Country contributed with four.
Men's Soccer and Men's Cross Country both had three representatives each. Women's Volleyball – which has the smallest roster of the five fall programs – rounded out the Highlanders' All-Academic Team with two members.
UC Riverside's 20 representatives are a significant increase from the 14 that were honored following the Fall 2016 quarter. This improvement has occurred in conjunction with the athletics department's recent overhaul of its academic program, which resulted in one of its most successful academic quarters in recent years.
Eligibility for qualifying for the All-Academic Team requires that the student-athletes maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, complete one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being received, and compete in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
