Riverside, Calif.- The UC Riverside Softball Team (19-7) won its 4th straight game Sunday afternoon as the Highlanders closed out the UCR Classic with a 6-0 win over Colgate University.
Freshman pitcher Hailey Dolcini (7-2) led the team's defensive efforts as she picked up her 5th straight win allowing zero runs, zero walks, and just two hits, while striking out seven. Dolcini controlled the game from the circle as she only had to face 22 batters to achieve 21 outs in the complete game the shutout.
The Highlanders got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd taking a 1-0 lead on a sac-fly from sophomore Karter Williams. The team would add another run in the 3rd as senior Chelsey Holley walked with the bases loaded to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the 5th sophomore Sarah Parten would extend the lead as she scored on a ball put into play by fellow sophomore Emma Ramelot.
UCR would double its 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 6th inning, threatening to end the game early. With the bases loaded, UCR would once again capitalize on walk as junior Brittney Garcia took a free base despite having a full count. Ramelot was the next to plate singling to center field to drive in the team's 5th run, and Holley capped off the Highlander's scoring efforts as she drove in a run on a groundout that gave UC Riverside the 6-0 victory.
The team is back in action this Tuesday as it hosts the UCR Tournament featuring Colgate and Harvard. The Highlanders first game is set for 12:30 PM with Harvard.
