Softball Falls in Doubleheader to San Diego

Riverside, Calif.— The UC Riverside Softball Team (22-11) fell to the University of San Diego (19-14) in the first two games of a three game series. The Toreros claimed game one of the Saturday doubleheader 6-4 and followed with an 8-1 win in game two.

GAME ONE
USD got on the board first scoring two runs in the 1st, but the Highlanders would even the game with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Sophomore Sarah Parten stepped to the plate with two on and two out and delivered an RBI double to bring in junior Hannah Rodriguez. Sophomore Emma Ramelot added a second run on an RBI single down the let line to drive in junior Birttany Garcia.

The Toreros added four runs to regain the lead 6-2, but UCR wasn't finished adding runs in the bottom of the 5th and 7th.

Parten grabbed her second RBI of the day reaching on a fielder's choice that brought in Rodriguez and cut the lead 6-3. In the bottom of the 7th, Rodriguez would touch home plate for the third time as she scored on a Torero wild pitch.

UCR battled to bring the game within two runs but USD would hold on.

Hannah Rodriguez was a bright spot for the Highlanders as she got on base three times and came around to score each time representing three of UCR's four runs.

GAME TWO
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Highlanders held off the Toreros until the 3rd inning where USD took a 3-0 lead.

UCR would answer quickly in the bottom of the 3rd scoring a run of its own as senior Jenna Curtan put a run on the board as she crossed on a ball put into play by Brittney Garcia.

USD added five more runs late in the game to seal it 8-1.

Despite scoring just one run, there was offensive success spread out amongst the UCR lineup as seven different players eregistered hits.
