Riverside, Calif.— The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team (4-10) fell in its doubleheader at home Sunday morning dropping matches to Southern Utah 6-1 and Northern Arizona 4-0.
SOUTHERN UTAH
The Highlanders kicked off the match against the Thunderbirds with some momentum in doubles as the team of Filip Engstrom and Kyle McCann grabbed the first win of the day on court two 6-3. SUU would even the doubles round with a a court three win, forcing the court one match to be the decider for the doubles point. Despite a hard fought match, the freshman duo of Pawel Jankowiak and Vignesh Subramanyan were edged out 7-6.
Jankowiak was the first to finish in the singles round winning in straight sets of 7-5, 6-2 on court one to tie the match at 1-1.
The Thunderbirds would grab the other singles matches giving them the 6-1 win.
NORTHERN ARIZONA
The match with the NAU Lumberjacks had a similar start as the Highlanders again got ahead in the doubles round. Jankowiak and Subramanyan grabbed a win on court one by a score of 6-3, but the Lumberjacks would take the doubles point winning on courts two and three.
The match was finished after NAU won singles matches on courts two, four, and five. Jankowiak, McCann, and Subramanyan were all in their third sets pushing for singles win, but were unable to finish.
