RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside (7-7) won its third straight game Friday night, allowing a season-low one run for the third time this season and defeating Utah (0-12) 2-1.

The Highlanders outhit the Utes 8-5, led by junior first baseman Ian Nowak, who went 2-of-3 mark at the plate. Nowak's solo home run in the bottom of the third would prove to be the game's deciding run, as senior right hander Jared Morton would collect four-out, striking out the side in the top of the ninth.

Redshirt sophomore right hander Trenton Toplikar (2-1) gave up just one run in seven innings for his second win of the season.

Senior shortstop Colby Schultz tallied the Highlanders' other RBI, bringing junior Matt Hardy run to open the scoring in the bottom of the second.

UC Riverside will continue its series with the Utes tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
