Riverside, Calif.— The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team (16-17) was edged out by Hawaii (3-14) 4-3 Thursday morning as the two teams split the singes round, but the Rainbow Warriors took the early doubles point to break the tie.
In the doubles round the duo of
Filip Engstrom and
Kyle McCann took a 6-4 win on court two, but Hawaii grabbed a win on court three to even out the round. The team of
Benjamin Kilchherr and
Nabil Abdallah held four match points on court one but fell 7-6 giving the Rainbow Warriors a 1-0 lead.
With singles wins on courts one, two, and four, Hawaii sealed the overall match 4-3.
Sophomore
Gilbert Chung was the first off the courts defeating Fabian Woehrl in straight sets of 6-3, 6-1. Freshman
Vignesh Subramanyan added another sweep for the Highlanders downing Tristan Martins 6-2, 6-2 on court six. Junior
Kyle McCann registered the final win of the day for UCR dropping Lucas LaBrunie 7-5, 6-3 on court three.
The Highlanders will finish out the regular season this Saturday at UC Davis. The match is set to start at 1:30 PM.
