Women's Tennis Edged Out by UC Irvine 4-3

Irvine, Calif.— The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team fell 4-3 to UC Irvine Saturday afternoon in its final dual match of the regular season. The Highlanders won the doubles point and two singles matches, but the Anteaters grabbed four singles wins.

In doubles play, UCI claimed the first match on court three, but UCR would add wins on courts one and two to take a 1-0 lead. The duo of Tia Elpusan and Sara Khattab won the first match for the Highlanders on court one 6-4 and the team of Lauren Wolfe and Tamilla Vaksman sealed the round with a 7-6 win on court two.

On the singles side, Karla Dulay took a match on court one by retirement after holding a lead in the 3rd set. The senior got the unfinished win 6-1, 3-6, 5-2 for her second conference victory.

Tracy Van added her first conference singles win as well on court six taking the final two sets to complete the comeback victory. The junior defeated Jacqueline Tsodikova 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

UC Irvine grabbed the four middle courts to seal the overall match 4-3.

Next on the schedule for the Highlanders is the Big West Conference Championships, which starts this Thursday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
