INDIAN WELLS, Calif.— A record-breaking season came to end Thursday morning as the 6
th seeded UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team (16-19) fell 4-0 to 3
rd seeded UC Davis (9-17). The Aggies took the doubles point and three singles matches to seal the overall match.
In the doubles round, UCD claimed courts one and two to clinch the point, but the freshman doubles duo of
Pawel Jankowiak and
Vignesh Subramanyan had an advantage in the two player's first ever post-season tournament. Before play was stopped, the Highlander team held a 5-4 lead over the Aggie team of Mitchell Iwahiro and Arjith Jayaraman.
In singles play, Subramanyan was just one game away from taking a match on court five over Tommy Lam as the freshman lead 6-4, 5-2. Sophomore
Nabil Abdallah was also working on a victory as he lead David Goulak 7-5, 4-4 on court three, before play was stopped.
The Highlanders wrap up the 2018 season with an overall record of 16-19 after breaking the program record for dual match wins. Abdallah, Subramanyan, and junior
Kyle McCann all finished the season with 20+ singles wins in dual match play and the doubles team of McCann and freshman
Filip Engstrom lead the team with an impressive 18-8 record.
Without any seniors on the roster and a large freshman class this season, the Highlanders expect to see many returners back for the 2019 season.
