Long Beach, Calif.- The UC Riverside Softball Team (25-14, 2-3) fell in both games of a doubleheader to open up a conference series with No. 18 Long Beach (31-7, 5-0). The 49ers took game one 6-0 and game two 1-0.
GAME ONE
Long Beach got out to an early lead in the first game scoring five runs in the first three innings and adding another in the sixth to seal the game 6-0.
The Highlanders threatened in the top of the 6th getting runners on the corners with two out, but could not capitalize.
Sophomore Sarah Parten was a bright spot in the first game of the series going 2-for-3 with a double.
GAME TWO
The second game of the series marked a start for freshman pitcher Hailey Dolicini, who threw a solid complete game for the Highlanders giving up just one earned run and two hits. Unfortunately, strong pitching from the 49ers turned this pitching duel into a 1-0 win for Long Beach State.
Long Beach took a 1-0 lead on a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the 1st, but the freshman phenom shut out the rest of the game only allowing two more 49ers on base throughout.
Offensively, UCR would threaten to ice the game in the top of the 6th inning as they had runners on 1st and 2nd, but could not string together the hits to bring a Highlander across.
Hannah Rodriguez, Emma Ramelot, and Rebbeca Faulkner all registered hits in game two for UCR and will look to get on the board tomorrow in game three. The final game of the series is set to start at 1:00 PM in Long Beach, CA.
