Softball Run-Rules Nevada 10-0 on a Walk-Off Home Run

LAS VEGAS, Nev.- The UC Riverside Softball Team (34-22) dominated in the program's first postseason game run-ruling Nevada (25-26) 10-0 on a walk-off home run by junior Brittney Garcia in the 6th inning. Eight different Highlanders collected hits on the day to help out hit the Wolf Pack 11-3 and a strong outing by the UCR defense helped blank a Nevada team that had only been shutout once this season.

"It's always great to get a strong start to a tournament," Head Coach Nikki Palmer said. "We made a statement that we are here to win."

Freshman pitcher Hailey Dolcini got the start in the circle for UCR and was brilliant tossing five innings and allowing just two hits, while striking out five to grab her 15th win of the season. Senior Tayler Misfeldt made a relief appearance in the 6th allowing just one hit and striking out two batters to finish the game on the defensive end for the Highlanders.

The Highlanders got on the board early taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Senior Jenna Curtan took 1st base on a walk and was moved to 2nd as junior Hannah Rodriguez bunted for a single. Next up was sophomore Emma Ramelot who brought Curtan home on an RBI single.

In the bottom of the 4th, UCR would add four more to its lead as Curtan, Ramelot, and Garcia all collected RBI singles to give the Highlanders a 5-0 lead, but the team was not finished yet, as the 6th inning would be where UC Riverside would do the most damage.

With the bases loaded and one out, senior catcher Chelsey Holley stepped to the plate and singled down the right field line to drive in two runs and put Highlanders on the corners. UCR held a 7-0 lead and needed just one more run to mercy the Wolf Pack, but Brittney Garcia had bigger goals in mind and she crushed a walk-off three-run homer over the left field wall to give the Highlanders a 10-0 win in the team's first ever postseason game.

Eight different players crossed home plate for the Highlanders and four players added RBI. Second-baseman Garcia led the way for UCR going 2-for-3 with a walk, a run, a home run, and four RBI and third-baseman Emma Ramelot provided many of the early runs going 2-fo-3 with a walk, a run, and three RBI. Jenna Curtan was efficient on the base paths scoring three runs of her own and going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

The Highlanders will now face host UNLV (32-18) tomorrow night at 6:00 PM at Eller Media Field in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner will move on to the championship game(s) on Friday.
