Riverside, Calif.—It's a weekend UC Riverside midfielder Maddy Feist won't soon forget.
After she scored a game-winning goal from 25 yards out in the 99th minute of Friday's game vs. Saint Mary's, Feist followed it up with a goal in the 15th minute of Sunday's, 2-0, win vs. Loyola Maryland.
"It was fantastic," head coach Nat Gonzalez said. "Any time someone scores two goals in a weekend it is pretty great. She's in better spots, she has more confidence."
After tallying an assist with the Feist goal, midfielder Quinley Quezada got a goal of her own in the 58th minute with an assist from Darielle O'Brien.
For Gonzalez and the assistant coaches, they preached all about effort during halftime of Sunday's game. Gonzalez also mixed things up with different personnel in the second half.
Not to be overlooked, the Highlanders defense was also solid. Goalie Laura Perjanik didn't allow a goal in either game. Â
