Women's Soccer Stays Undefeated with 1-0 Win vs. UNLV

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—When you are on a run like the UC Riverside Women's Soccer team, everything seems to go right. Sunday's match against UNLV was another example of exactly that.

In just the 13th minute, Quinley Quezada collected a loose ball, dribbled between defenders and blasted a shot from about 20 yards to help the Highlanders to a 1-0 win.

With a record of 8-0-1, the team is off to its best start since 2004 and has already tied its win mark from last season. The Highlanders also have eight shutouts.

"Scoring that early settles us down," Quezada said. "We have the lead, but we know that we still have to keep pushing. It just calms us down to where we play better, so I think that is good for us."

While Maddie Feist has been the prominent goal scorer for the team this season, Quezada continues to be a threat. Sunday marked her third goal of the season.

"The whole team contributes to every game, but especially this one," Quezada said. "The energy on the bench kept us going. We needed everybody and they all brought their energy this entire weekend."

The team will face Denver at home on Friday in its final non-conference game of the season. To buy tickets, click here.

"We've overcome so many things already this season and the girls really haven't blinked," head coach Nat Gonzalez said. "It is really cool to watch. We are developing into a program that expects to win and you see it in the effort, organization, and the way they approach practice and games."
