
26 Highlanders Earn Big West All-Academic Honors

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—A record number 224 student-athletes from the Big West, 26 of which came from UC Riverside, were named to the Big West Conference Fall All-Academic team.
The number of UCR student-athletes on the team is tied for third in the conference. The sports include: men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and women's volleyball.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
Senior Kristie Alejo, junior Tara Eaton, sophomore Kat Lowry and junior Yuliya Ushakova from women's volleyball made the team. Junior David Cabral and senior Dusan Keca from the men's soccer team also received the honor.
Women's soccer had the most student-athletes make the team among UCR Fall sports. The nine student athletes to make the team included: senior Annie Bailey, senior Nerisse Bugho, sophomore Miah Conde, senior Maddie Feist, senior Darielle O'Brien, junior Amanda Roy, senior Kyra Taylor, senior Christina Tucker and sophomore Alexis Vera.
Women's cross country honorees included: sophomore Kiley Atwood, sophomore Haley Cabrera, junior Samantha Poliakon, junior Leslie Rivera, sophomore Alison Soto and sophomore Alyssa Tran.
Junior Jack Frimodig, junior Maxwell Gray, senior Arman Irani, junior James Sever and sophomore Blake Starbuck from men's cross country made the team.
