Women's Volleyball Heads to Hawaii

RIVERSIDE—The UC Riverside women's volleyball team (5-12, 1-5 Big West) heads to the Aloha State this weekend, to take on the 9th best team in the country, Hawaii. The Highlanders will be searching for their second win of conference after dropping five straight matches. Despite there being several matches left to return to winning ways, it would bode well if the Highlanders displayed a strong performance in Hawaii.

Currently the Highlanders sit in last place in the conference, yet they have continued to see strong performances from Kat Lowry and Morgan Kline on the offensive end. Furthermore, as a team the Highlanders continue to display their tenacity as their currently rank 4th in the conference in Digs, Assists, and Kills.

Scouting the Rainbow Wahine
The Rainbow Wahine (15-3, 4-2 Big West) are currently ranked #9 in the nation according to the NCAA RPI report. Since rejoining the Big West in 2012, the Rainbow Wahine have either won or been runner-up for the conference championship each year and have appeared in the NCAA tournament every year since rejoining as well.

This year the Rainbow Wahine are in the top three of every statistical category in the conference besides service aces, in which they are 5th. Junior Skyler Williams leads the conference in hitting percentage and freshman Amber Igiede is 3rd in the conference for blocks.

The Series: UC Riverside vs UH
Since joining the Big West Conference again in 2012, the Highlanders have yet to post a win at home or on the road against Hawaii. In saying so, it is always a good time to make some history, and the Highlanders will be looking to do just that. The match will be held on Friday October 18th, at Stan Sheriff Center at 10p.m Pacific time, 7p.m Hawaii time.
