Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Southwest Regional Championships

SAN DIEGO—The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team continued their fall schedule this past weekend on the campus of the University of San Diego, the host site of the  ITA Regional Tennis Championships. The Highlanders put up a good fight against some tough competitors and gathering a win along the way. 
 
In the singles bracket of the tournament, junior Tia Elpusan fought back after losing her first set of her match. She would came back in the next two sets and was able to pick up a win against conference foe Taylor Valenzuela of Cal State Fullerton with a score of 5-7, 7-5, 6-0. Unfortunately, in the same round, senior Sarah Khattab fell to Savannah Slaysman of Arizona State University 6-2, 7-6 (5) and sophomore Mahli Silpachai fell 6-1, 6-1 to UCSB's Shakhnoza Khatmova.
 
Along with her singles victory, Tia Elupsan was also able to gain some experience this weekend with her partner Sarah Khattab in the double's single elimination bracket. Tia Elupsan and Sarah Khattab competed against Madison Kim and Petra Melounova from the University of Hawaii but ended up losing to the conference foes 8-2.
