Men's Soccer Draws with CSUN

RIVERSIDE— The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team tied with the visiting CSUN Matadors Wednesday night at UCR Soccer Stadium. The Highlanders netted a late first half goal to take the lead, but a second half goal by CSUN and a scoreless overtime would give both teams their first conference draw.

The Highlanders and Matadors remain at a deadlock with Sacramento State for sixth place in the Big West Conference with all three teams having a 1-3-1 record. UCR will have an opportunity to move up this Saturday when they face the Hornets.

In the 43rd minute, UCR broke through as junior Adrian Medina lost a defender and pushed the ball to the top of the box before finding sophomore Caio Guazzelli for his third goal of the season.

UCR's defense played a tough match, nearly holding on for the shutout, but Daniel Trejo would find himself point blank with the goal on a broken play to tie it 1-1 in the 64th minute.. Each team's defense would hold on through the rest of regulation and the two overtime periods. The Highlanders saw a few opportunities for the golden goal, but could not find the net.

Senior Edwyn Gutierrez earned the start in between the posts collecting four saves.

The final home match of the regular season is set for this Saturday at 7 PM, with the team celebrating its nine seniors in a prematch ceremony before taking on Sacramento State.
