RIVERSIDE— The UC Riverside Women's Basketball team dropped a home contest to Weber State Sunday afternoon, 64-54.Â
The Highlanders (2-5, 0-0) and Wildcats (1-4, 0-0) both shot exactly 22-64 (34.3%) from the field, however, Weber State outshot the blue and gold from distance connecting on 11 of their 23 attempts (47.8%), compared to two of 14 (14.3%) for the home side.
Â
Along with shooting numbers, the clubs also had matching turnover totals, 21 for each, which the Wildcats scored 19 points off of compared to UCR's six. Weber State also won the battle of the boards, 48-40.
UCR led for much of the first half, and was ahead, 32-28, with 1:37 to play in the second, when the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run that included a pair triples to close out the half leading, 36-32.
A cold shooting third coupled with foul trouble spelled trouble for the Highlanders, who narrowed the deficit to two, 52-50, early in the fourth only to see the Wildcats run off nine-straight points to put the game out of reach en route to their first win of the season, 64-54.
Marina Ewodo and Daphne Gnago led the Highlanders with 11 points, seven rebounds and 11 points, six rebounds respectively. Jannon Otto collected a season-high 10 rebounds in the loss for UCR.Â
Looking Forward
The Highlanders hit the road for games at Arizona on Black Friday, and against Colorado State on Sunday, December 1st.Â
