EUGENE, OR— The UC Riverside Women's Basketball team fell to #3 Oregon, 84-41, in a Monday morning matchup in front of thousands of local elementary school kids. Jannon Otto posted a 19 point-11 rebound double-double to lead the Highlanders, her second in as many games, while Keilanei Cooper pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.
Â
UC Riverside (3-8, 0-0) was competitive with #3 Oregon (9-1, 0-0) early on closing out the first frame down, 17-9. The second period also saw the Ducks outscore the Highlanders by eight, resulting in a 38-22 halftime score.
"I liked how we competed early on, but you can't get away with the kind of mistakes we made today against a team that good," said Head Coach Seyram Bell. "We did gain some valuable experience and an understanding of what it takes to compete at this level." she added.Â
A, 15-2, run by Oregon to begin the third quarter to create an insurmountable margin for UCR to make up. The Highlanders continued to get inspired play from Otto and Cooper along with Lauryn Pointer, who took four charges in the game, before it's 84-41 ending. The Highlanders had 20 turnovers and shot 24.6% from the field for the game. Daphne Gnago's selfless play limited the Ducks leading offensive rebounder (4.5 pg) Ruth Hebard to just one offensive board.Â

UCR next heads to Cedar City, UT to take on Southern Utah on Thursday, December 19th.
