Women's Tennis Drops Doubleheader in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev.— The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team came up short in its first outing in Las Vegas as the Highlanders fell to Colorado State and host UNLV. Due to inclement weather, the matchup with the Rebels would begin with singles play to ensure that all matches could be played.

COLORADO STATE
The matchup with Colorado State was a hard fought battle as after losing the doubles point, sophomore Tia Elpusan and freshman Hanh Pham showed some resiliency in singles. Both players would fall in their first sets, but each would bounce back to win the final two as Elpusan took a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win on a court two and Pham earned a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win on court five.

The Rams would take courts one, three, and four to take the match 4-2.

UNLV
The second match of the day went right into singles play as the Running Rebels earned quick wins on courts one, two, five, and six to take the match 4-0.

The Highlanders faired well on courts three and four as freshman Mahli Silpachai was on the verge of taking over her second set and freshman Natalie Shamma had a battle going on her court, but unfortunately the matches would go unfinished.

UC Riverside will look to bounce back in a neutral match with New Mexico State Sunday morning.
