UPPER MARLBORO, MD.- The Highlanders ended their first east coast road trip with a bang Sunday afternoon as the UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team swept its second straight opponent in Coppin State.
"The guys finished the trip on a high note and now we're looking forward to a seven match home stand," said Head Coach
Mattias Johansson. "We have played a lot on the road to prepare us for the rest of the season so hopefully we are getting closer to consistent peak performances."
UCR would lose only one doubles match on the day, but thanks to the team of senior captain
Kyle McCann and freshman phenom
Andreas Whelan-Merediz, the Highlanders would collect the doubles point and a 1-0 lead with the duo earning a 6-4 win on court two.
In the singles round is where each student-athlete found their rhythm winning every set on their way to a 7-0 sweep of CSU.
McCann capped off his undefeated weekend on court one dropping Coppin State's Jorge Rodriguez Rey 6-4, 6-4 and junior Captain
Nabil Abdallah added a 6-2, 6-0 win on court two over Henrique Sada.
The lower three courts saw the most dominant wins as junior
Gilbert Chung, sophomore
Vignesh Subramanyan, and Whelan-Merediz lost just two games combined. Subramanyan would turn in the perfect performance on court four downing Quincy Pettis 6-0, 6-0.
UCR will look to keep its momentum going this Friday when the team hosts Villanova.
