Men's Tennis Battles but Falls at Cal Poly 4-2

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.—Lower court wins were not enough for the UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team which battled hard with a talented Cal Poly team, but ultimately fell 4-2.

The Mustangs took the doubles point and two singles matches to go up 3-0 and put the Highlanders in a must-win situation, but UCR would rise to the occasion taking courts five and six back-to-back to cut the lead. Sophomore Vignesh Subramanyan was up on court four, looking to tie the match when the Mustangs claimed the final singles win on court three to take the match 4-2.

UC Riverside will now head to UC Santa Barbara to face a tough Gauchos team that has claimed the Big West title the last four years straight.

Coach Johansson's Take
"Wow- we are beginning to push the top teams in our conference. Down 0-3, we get a pair of wins to keep it going and really give ourselves a chance to win. Maybe it was not meant to be this time but my guys are true ballers. Four of guys are dealing with illness and despite that we were just one-two points from downing Cal Poly. I am really looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish these last few weeks. I couldn't be prouder of the effort and will to win and makes the changes to do so."
