Women's Tennis Set Host Pair of Conference Matches

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team is back in action after a long spring break this week as the Highlanders are set to host UC Santa Barbara and CSUN. The matchup with Gauchos is set for Thursday at 11 AM and the battle with the Matadors will take place on Saturday at noon. The Highlanders been red hot as of late winning three of their last four matches, including a 7-0 sweep over Quinnipiac.

Before Saturday's match, the 2019 senior class will be honored as Tracy Van and Arabella Valera take the SRC Tennis courts for the last time.

FRESHMEN ON FIRE
The Highlander freshmen have truly made an impact in just their first year in blue and gold combining for 24 of the team's 36 singles wins. Mahli Silpachai leads the team with nine in dual match play.

DYNAMIC DUO
The doubles team of sophomore Tia Elpusan and junior Sara Khattab, which earned all conference honors last season, is back at it this year with a 8-3 record on court one so far.

TIA ON TOP
On January 30th, sophomore Tia Elpusan picked up her 2nd career Big West Athlete of the Week Award despite a pair of tough matches for the Highlanders. Elpusan competed intensely picking up a 2-0 mark at doubles and splitting a pair of singles bouts.

KOBE YEAR
Head Coach Mark Henry enters his 24th season as the head of the UCR Women's Tennis Team. He has now been a Highlander tennis coach for 26 years.
