Freshmen Shine for Women's Tennis in Loss to CSUN

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team celebrated its senior day Saturday afternoon before taking on CSUN in the final home match of the season. The Matadors would take the contest 5-2, but it was all smiles in the pre-match ceremony as seniors Tracy Van and Arabella Valera were honored in their final appearance at the SRC Tennis Courts.
Van and Valera paired with each other in the doubles round on court three, but a strong showing from the Matadors would grant CSUN a 1-0 lead taking all three courts.
In singles play two freshmen would come out on top on the upper courts after battling to three set victories. Freshman Lindsey Gelinas earned a court one win downing Monika Van de Vondel 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 and Mahli Silpachai continued her rookie year dominance defeating Skyla Alcon 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 on court three. Silpachai is now up to 10 wins in singles dual match play.
UCR will now close out the regular season on the road facing Dominican, UC Davis, and Cal State Fullerton in the next two weeks.
