Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis Tops Hawaii 4-3 on the Road

HONOLULU, Hawaii.—For the first time since the 2015-2016 season, the UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team (18-11, 1-1) earned a conference win on the road as the Highlanders topped Hawaii 4-3 in a Sunday afternoon matchup. With this the team collects its 18th win on the season extending the program's all-time record for a single season.

UCR would lose the doubles point but found four singles wins, three of which came from underclassmen, to earn the overall victory. Up 3-2 in the singles round, it was junior Gilbert Chung continuing his hot streak and sealing the win for the Highlanders, this time on court two.

Coach's Take
"We showed a lot of character Today bouncing back from our loss to UCI and getting the win today despite losing the doubles point," Head Coach Mattias Johansson said. "Everyone stepped out and played great tennis which is pretty rare to see in a big conference match. It was truly a humbling experience to be a part of the determination the guys had today. We talked before the match about how getting the "W" would require high level tennis and a lot of suffering during long points, and everyone was willing to do just that. All for one and one for all. Our program has been takig many steps in the right direction, and Today's win showed that once again."
