Baseball Downed by UCI on Senior Day

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – It was a beautiful day for baseball and an even more beautiful ceremony celebrating the 2019 UC Riverside Baseball senior class. Although the game didn't go as planned as the Highlanders fell to UCI 22-7, it was a game that had some highlights for the seniors.

All the seniors were able to see action except Justin Mannens who is out with a shoulder injury. The team missed his presence on the field but felt it strongly in the dugout.

The day was highlighted by Matt Hardy hitting a solo shot to left center to get the Highlanders on the board. Hardy also had a double on the afternoon as he finished with two hits and two runs.

Hardy had a large family showing for his big day highlighted by his grandmother, Sue Hardy and his great grandmother, Molly Hardy. They have been staples in the Riverside cheering section for the past four seasons.

Dean Miller also had a strong day at the plate as he, too, had two hits and an RBI. Miller is in contention for Big West Player of the Year as he finished the season batting .369 with 14 home runs and 49 RBIs.

Yeager Taylor also finished his last game off with a pair of RBIs off a single to center in the bottom of the sixth inning. Taylor has a strong chance to become an all-conference performer once the votes are casted in the Big West.

Jared Noonan came in to pitch and was able to record four outs striking out one batter in his 30th appearance of the season and last of his career.

Some non-senior highlights included junior Connor Cannon hitting a bomb to deep center for his 18th home run of the season; adding to his UCR single season and career records.

Freshman Andre Granillo threw a shutout ninth inning as he struck out the side.

We want to say thank you again to all the seniors for all their hard work and dedication during their time at UCR. Thank you for representing our university with such class. Highlander family for life.
