Women's Soccer Edged Out on the Road

FRESNO—It was a tough weekend road trip for the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team, which fell 1-0 to Fresno State in a Sunday afternoon matchup. The Highlanders kept the Bulldogs out of the net for 55 minutes before FSU found the sole goal of the match early in the second half.

The stat line was as even as it could be with both teams putting up seven shots on the day and the Bulldogs landing just one more on frame, taking that battle 4-3. Each team also had three saves with the Highlanders' going to senior keeper Annie Bailey.

Sophomore transfer Shanya Dhindsa returned to the starting lineup and put some pressure on firing off a pair of shots, and the trio of freshman Charisma Benitez, sophomore Akari Shimizu, and junior Miah Conde were the ones to put up the shots on goal.

The Highlander defense looked strong in the scoreless first half, but the Bulldogs were determined to break through and would in the 56th minute as Sydni Lunt notched her first goal of the season after being set up by her teammate Robyn McCarthy.

UCR had opportunities as the match came to a close, but could not find the net on any of their four second half attempts.

UC Riverside is now in its final week of the non-conference schedule as they return home this Thursday to host Denver before taking off to Santa Clara to see the Broncos on Sunday.
