USF
The matchup with the host Dons was a heartbreaker for the Highlanders who fought hard for five sets before being edged out in the fifth 15-11. UCR would score 20+ in each of the first four sets to keep the battle close throughout.

The first set was one for the ages, with the Highlanders trailing by as much as seven points. The Dons held set point with a commanding 24-20 lead before UCR landed five straight points to keep the set going. The two teams would battle to a 30-30 tie before the Highlanders finally claimed it at 32-30 to take the lead in the overall match.

UCR kept that momentum rolling into the second set taking an early lead and hanging on throughout to take it 25-21. The Highlanders would head to the break up 2-0.

The host Dons would have to respond quickly, and they did claiming the next two sets 25-20 and 25-23. This momentum shift would be enough for USF to keep its flow and claim the fifth and final set as well 15-11.

Yet another Highlander newcomer led the team's scoring efforts as junior transfer Ayla Fresenius put up a season high 20 kills to along with 14 digs and a trio of blocks. Freshman Ashley Dittmann and junior Yuliya Ushakova added 14 kills and 13 kills, respectively, and junior Morgan Kline led the team with 44 assists.

The team would look to bounce back on a quick turn around playing a back-to-back matches.

NEVADA
The second match of the night was all Highlanders as the Wolfpack experienced the heartbreaking deja vu of losing each set 25-23. Each set was tight, but the Highlanders played more consistently throughout giving themselves an opportunity to capitalize late.

The kill battle was near even between the two teams, but UCR saved its biggest set for last posting 17 kills as a team in the third to end the match. They also made use of the serve attack notching eight total aces.

The offensive love was spread around in this contest with no Highlanders notching double digit kills, but five of them tallying five or more. Junior Alexis Vanlandingham led the efforts with eight. Kline again led in assists with 30 and led all players with 15 digs as well.

The Highlanders close out the tournament tomorrow with a matchup against Purdue Fort Wayne.
