Honolulu, O'ahu— The UC Riverside Women's Basketball team was defeated Thursday night in Big West conference play at Hawai'i, 80-57.

Jannon Otto notched her second double-double in three games with 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Highlanders. She was joined in double figures by sophomore forward Bryanna Brady, who established new career-highs of 10 points and five rebounds.

Coming into to the game, Hawai'i and UC Riverside were number one and two respectively in the Big West when it came to defending against the three. In Thursday's meeting that factor would play out differently for the clubs as the Rainbow Warriors connected on 11 of their 26 attempts from distance, while the Highlanders shot 2-16, a 27-point margin in total.

UC Riverside (5-11, 1-1) fell behind in the first half due in part to a cold-shooting first period that saw them go 3-14 from the field and score seven points compared to 23 by Hawai'i (7-9, 1-2).

"We dug ourselves a pretty big hole early on. And here in Hawai'i, you just can't let them get rolling like that." said Head Coach Seyram Bell.

The second period was played at a closer range, but still saw the hosts extend their advantage to 22 at the break, 46-24.

UCR outscored Hawai'i 14-7 over the first seven minutes of the third quarter to cut the deficit to a manageable 15 points at 53-38. However, the Bows would close out the period with an 8-2 run to take a 61-40 advantage to the fourth.

In the final frame, the Highlanders cut the deficit to 16, but go no closer as the Rainbow Warriors would go on to pick up their first Big West victory, 80-57.

UCR returns home to host UC Santa Barbara Saturday at 7pm in the SRC Arena.Â
