Men’s Tennis Drops Two Matches on the Road At UNLV

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The UC Riverside Highlanders men's tennis team fell to 4-4 this season after dropping two matches on the road at UNLV. The Highlanders traveled to Rebel territory in Las Vegas to play four matches in two days in clinch format. They faced Hawai'i in the morning and their hosts, UNLV, in the afternoon.

It was a fight from beginning for the Highlanders with a tough 0-4 loss to start the day against Hawai'i. Head Coach Mattias Johansson spoke of his teams' effort on the court, saying, "The final score is no indication of what was going on out on the courts – that's how it goes sometimes when playing in clinch format." Pair Daniel Velek and Andreas Whelan-Merediz had four match points to grab the point in #1 Doubles, before ultimately dropping it 6-7. There were tough close losses in Singles as well, with split matches in the #2 and #4 spots. The Highlanders were up in the #5 spot when Hawai'i clinched the win.

In the second match of the day, UNLV took the Doubles point with the first two completed matches. The Rebels then pulled off three straight-set Singles wins against the Highlanders to take the match 0-4.

The Highlanders look to bounce back tomorrow, February 1, in two more matches hosted by UNLV against New Mexico State at 10:00 AM and Southern Utah at 3:30 PM.
