RIVERSIDE, Calif. – After the UC Riverside hosted leg of the Highlander at North Campus Crosstown Showdown was postponed Saturday night due to weather and rescheduled for Monday, February 24 at 6 PM, the Highlanders returned to California Baptist's Totman Stadium to continue the series with game two. The Highlander's took game one of the series Friday night with a 7-4 win.
Travis Bohall led off the first inning with a bang, hitting a homer off the second pitch of the game. Unfortunately it would be the only run to cross the plate for UCR, with California Baptist tying it up in the second inning and taking a lead off of two sacrifice flies in the bottom of the seventh after a mostly scoreless game. It would ultimately go to the Lancers 3-1.
Freshman
Zach Jacobs started on the mound for UC Riverside, in his second appearance this season. He started the second game of the UCLA series, letting up four runs on eight hits in five innings. Despite picking up the loss against CBU, Jacobs had a strong showing throwing seven complete innings, letting up three runs on seven hits and only walking one batter in the 28 he faced.
Andre Granillo would relieve Jacobs in the eighth, but wouldn't pick up the save as Highlander offense struggled get base runners across home plate. Eight men were left on base throughout the game and two Highlander base runners were caught stealing.
Dylan Orick and
Garrett Calvert each went two for four towards the Highlanders cause, but neither would break the tie leading up to the seventh or take the lead after the stretch.
