Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UC Riverside Women's Tennis team returned to the SRC Tennis Courts today to host the visiting Westmont College Warriors. The Highlanders are 1-3 this season after last weekend's matches against UC Davis and University of Oregon. Westmont is coming off a strong 2019 season, where they won the Golden State Athletic Conference Championship. The Warriors traveled to the Inland Empire from Santa Barbara to take on the Highlanders with a 1-4 record entering the match.
Lindsey Gelinas and Lauren Wolfe would clinch #3 Doubles first 6-1, followed by their teammates in the #1 spot, Tia Elpusan and Sarah Khattab, who won 6-2. Mahli Silpachai and Hanh Pham were the last pair of Highlanders to finish their Doubles flight in the #2 spot, with a 6-1 win to secure the Doubles point.
Freshman Sofia Lazarroni would bring in the first Singles point for the Highlanders in the #6, spot, winning in straight sets. The only set dropped by the Highlanders went to a superset tiebreaker in the #1 spot. The final score was 6-1 in favor of UC Riverside.
The team advances to 2-3 overall and looks to continue the momentum in their next match against UC San Diego at home in Riverside, Calif. on Saturday, February 8 at 12:00 PM.
