RIVERSIDE, Calf. – The University of California, Riverside Women's Tennis, Men's Cross Country and Men's Golf teams were honored recently with an NCAA academic award that illustrates the team's dedication to excelling in the classroom. Each team boasts a perfect 1000 multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR).
Â
The three teams received the NCAA Public Recognition Award which is bestowed upon teams with an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports based on the APR data released in May 2019.
Â
UCR's Women's Tennis team has now successfully been awarded the prestigious honor every year since 2008, marking 11 straight years receiving this top honor.Â
In addition, UCR Women's Tennis has dutifully maintained a perfect APR score for 11 years straight, wonderfully balancing the team's performance in competition as well as in the classroom.Â
Â
This is the second year in a row that Men's Cross Country has received the recognition and the first time Men's Golf has earned the honor.Â
Â
"I am incredibly proud of the academic performance of our Women's Tennis, Men's Cross Country and Men's Golf team," said Tamica Smith Jones, UCR's Director of Athletics. "The public recognition from the NCAA for APR achievement is well-deserved as the scholar-athletes on these three teams along with our Student-Athlete Services team have worked tirelessly in the pursuit of academic excellence. And, accomplishing this feat at one of the nation's top public universities is something of which they can all be proud."
UCR Athletics had the second highest number of teams receiving public recognition for this award from the NCAA, behind only Cal Poly, which had four teams recognized.
