RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside head men's basketball coach
Mike Magpayo announced the program's 2021-22 schedule on Wednesday, ushering in the program's 20
th year in the Big West Conference.
The 32-game schedule will tip off on November 9 at 2021 Mountain West regular season champion San Diego State and conclude on March 5 at Long Beach State before the Highlanders head to the Big West Tournament at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada.
"This schedule gives us ample opportunity to build on the new standard we set for ourselves last season," head coach
Mike Magpayo said. "Our combination of high-level talent against high-level opponents will help us continue our upward trajectory as a program. It will be a special treat for the fans who get to see us in person again."
UC Riverside will play six of its first nine contests away from the Inland Empire, highlighted by trips to San Diego State, Arizona State, Saint Mary's and Oregon. The Pac-12 road trips to Tempe and Eugene mark the fifth consecutive season for UC Riverside with at least two Power 5 opponents.
The Highlanders will also partake in the Golden Turkey Classic, traveling to UTEP on November 22 and hosting Florida A&M on November 26.
UCR will play 16 of their 32 contests at SRC Arena this winter, including Homecoming on November 20 against Bethesda and the Crosstown Showdown with California Baptist on December 12.
UCR opens its Big West schedule on December 28 at UC Davis, then makes the trip to Hawaii on New Year's Day before returning home to host UC San Diego on January 6.
This will be the first game against the Aggies since the 2020 regular season finale due to last season's cancellation for COVID-19 precautions. Last year's matchups with Long Beach State were also canceled.
UCR will enjoy two separate four-game conference home stands. The Highlanders will play four games in a week all at the SRC Arena from January 27 to February 3, then a second home stand will see four home games in nine days from February 17 to the 26.
The Highlanders' Senior Night against UC Santa Barbara on February 26 and road trips to Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State will round out the regular season slate before UCR heads to the Dollar Loan Center for the Big West Tournament.
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics continues to celebrate the return of fans to Highlander venues with the announcement of UC Riverside's winter sports fan and ticket policies for men's hoops.
With SRC Arena seating capped at 50% capacity for 2021-22 in adherence to return-to-play safety protocols, fans are encouraged to act quickly to purchase tickets to be part of the excitement. In addition to welcoming students free of charge to UCR events, the Highlanders are email taking signups at
