SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of California, Riverside (UCR) Baseball team returned to the University of San Diego (USD) for a doubleheader, which made up two of the four-games in this weekend's series. Runs were tough to come by for the Highlanders as they were shut out by Torero defense in both games, 0-7 in game one and 0-9 in game two. 

Abbott Haffar started the day on the mound for UC Riverside. He kept the game scoreless until the third inning when a two-RBI double from USD drove in the first two runs of the game. The Toreros scored one more run in the inning before the Highlanders were able to get out of it. Shamus Lyons relieved Haffar in the fifth inning. He wouldn't find trouble until the eighth. A triple drove in the first run of the inning for the Toreros, followed by an RBI single and a two-RBI double to round out the four-run inning. USD pitching held the Highlanders to just two hits in the entire game, and won with a final score of 0-7.

In the second game of the day, Bret Lachemann took the mound for the Highlanders and found trouble early as USD homered to right field, sending 2 runs home in the first inning. Two more Torero baserunners found their way home before the Highlanders could get out of the inning, down 0-4. The game settled down in innings two, three and four, as the Highlanders fought for a run across the trio of scoreless innings. It wouldn't remain scoreless for the rest of the game however, as USD bats picked up in the fifth inning and scored at least one run per inning for the rest of the game. The final score would be 0-9 in the Toreros favor.

UC Riverside returns for one final game against University of San Diego, and a shot to salvage the series tomorrow, March 14 at 1pm.
