SEDONA, Ariz. – The UC Riverside women's golf team wrapped up play at the Red Rocks Invitational on Sunday afternoon.Â
Â
A freshmen led the 13th-place Highlanders for the second consecutive tournament, as Vanessa Betancourt finished off her second collegiate tournament carding a 16-over 232 overall for a top-40 finish.Â
Â
After shooting for par on six holes of the back nine during round one, Betancourt did the same with the front nine in round two and back nine in round three.Â
Â
Kate Villegas, who recorded a field second-best 14 pars in Sunday's final round and shot a team-low 74 for the final round, finished right behind her freshman counterpart Betancourt with a 17-over 233 thanks to pars on eight of the back nine during the final round.Â
Â
UCR recorded five birdies as a team on the back nine during Sunday's third round, the most since carding five on the front nine in round one. Mylan Hirata accounted for two of them on Sunday, on holes 14 and 17.Â
Â
UC Riverside will head next to the Fresno State Classic, where they last finished fifth out of 14 in 2019 (last year's even was canceled due to Covid-19). The Highlanders will tee off April 12 from the Copper River Golf Club. Â
