DAVIS, Calif. - Marissa Burk opened the scoring in Sunday's series finale with a solo home run to left center field, but UC Riverside dropped the final game of a three-game swing with UC Davis, 2-1.
The opening innings served as a textbook pitcher's duel with both hurlers combining for 12 strikeouts through the first three frames.
Chrys Hildebrand was dealing for UCR in Sunday's finale, going 4.0 innings with no hits and seven strikeouts, one shy of tying a career high. Hildebrand made quick work of the bottom half of the first with three swinging strikeouts before ultimately retiring her first eight batters.
Burk's solo shot in the fourth was her first on the year and her sixth RBI on the season.
UCR threatened again an inning later, putting runners on the corners on a hard-hit ball up the middle by Katherine Montuya. Maiah Motta moved over to third on the single, but UC Riverside was unable to get the insurance run.
Motta was a perfect 4 for 4 for the afternoon, recording her second double of the season in the top of the ninth inning. Motta's afternoon was the first four-hit game for a UCR player since Emma Ramelot went 4 for 4 in an 8-2 win over Santa Clara in 2019.
