Highlanders Fall to Lopes on the Road

Phoenix, Ariz. - The University of California, Riverside men's tennis team traveled to Phoenix to play a non-conference dual match against Grand Canyon University.

The Highlanders ultimately dropped the match, 6-1 but claimed victories in a #2 doubles (Nolan McCaig/ Djakouris) and #3 singles.

On the day, Head Coach Mattias Johansson said, "Nolan McCaig continues to impress me with his stellar consistent play. Overall, we did not reach the level that I was hoping for, except for McCaig and Joshua Roth."

Both McCaig and Roth's single matches went to 10-point tiebreakers in the third sets. McCaig clinched #3 singles for the lone Highlander point of the day.

Coach Johansson reflected, saying, "We are a young team that needs to learn how to play away from home. I'm pretty sure it will begin to happen more and more, but today we did not do that."

The Highlanders look to battle back Friday, April 16 in a Big West match on the road at UC Santa Barbara. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:20 pm.
