FULLERTON, Calif. – The Highlanders got gutty, three-set wins from their first and third singles players Saturday on the road at Fullerton, but not before the Titans clinched the contest with three singles wins and a 2-5 overall decision over UC Riverside.
Senior Tia Elpusan saw success in her first match of the year on Court One, beating Misaki Kobayashi, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. Also winning on the singles court Saturday for UCR was junior Natalie Shamma on Court Three, where she defeated Jadie Acidera, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.
Prior to their wins, however, the Highlanders found themselves down 0-3 after the losses by Mahi Silpacha, 6-0, 6-2 to Eira Tobrand; Serina Saltzen, 6-1, 6-0 to YuSeung Suh; and Sofia Lazzaroni, 6-3, 6-1 to Juliette Daries.
In doubles, Hanh Pham fell to Natalie Duffy in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
