RIVERSIDE, Calif. - It was a long day for the Highlanders at the Riverside Sports Complex, as UCR dropped games two and three of the doubleheader against UC Santa Barbara, 14-3 and 12-0.
UC Riverside loaded the bases in the third inning of game one, starting with a leadoff walk from Joey Nicolai. Nicolai advanced to third later in the inning after Ely Stuart singled on a hard-hit ball off the pitcher's foot.Â
Stuart finished game one going 2 for 4 and recorded his fourth hit in five games in the process, while Travis Bohall, who also logged a hit in the frame, recorded his third hit of the series.
Nicolai recorded his third straight game with an RBI and 24th RBI overall after singling to left center on an 0-2 pitch. Nicolai's hit scored Jacob Shanks from second, who doubled the previous UCR at bat.
Nicolai went 2 for 3 in game one with two RBIs to make it five RBIs in his last six outings.
Game two was much of the same for Nicolai, who was the only Highlander to record a hit in his 2-for-2 performance. All told, he finished Saturday's doubleheader with his ninth and tenth multi-hit games of the season.Â
UC Riverside will close out the series and Big West play on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch against the Gauchos.
