RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside capped off its 2021 season and the Crosstown Showdown on Saturday afternoon with a 14-6 defeat to California Baptist at the Riverside Sports Complex.
Dylan Orick and Jacob Shanks both extended respective hit streaks to five apiece in the first two innings and advanced on wild pitches. Orick's single came in the third UCR at bat of the afternoon, while Shanks led off the second with a single through the third base hole.
Cole Pofek got the Highlanders on the board in the fourth inning with a single up the middle that scored Anthony Mata from second. UCR picked up two more runs on a two-out, two-run RBI single from Travis Bohall that scored Pofek and Shanks.
Orick sent a foul ball in the fifth inning just wide of the right field foul pole, but sent the very next pitch over the right center fence in clearly fair territory to level the season finale once more, 4-4.
Orick and Pofek each recorded multi-hit games in the season finale, with Orick's second hit coming on the fifth inning solo shot. It was the 17th multi-hit game for Orick and first for Pofek since May 9 against Long Beach State. Pofek added two runs and two RBIs to the Highlanders' offensive production.
The Highlanders finish the regular season at 15-36.
