LOGAN, Utah - UC Riverside took an early lead in the second leg of its six-week road trip, but fell 2-1 to Utah State on Friday at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field in Logan, Utah.
Lindsey Turner wasted no time opening up her collegiate scoring account with a goal in the third minute to put UCR on the board first. Turner ended the afternoon with four shots, the most by a Highlander in a game this season. Leigh Polson logged the assist on UCR's quick score, her second of the season.
Cassia Souza made a pair of saves in a two-minute span to keep the game 1-0, as the Highlanders took the one-goal advantage into the halftime break. Turner's goal also served as UCR's first of eight shots on the day.
UC Riverside's offense came alive in the second half with six of its eight shots in the latter 45 minutes and two of the three on target.
The Aggies pulled ahead in a stretch of 11 minutes, however, to take a 2-1 lead on UCR and hold on for the remainder of the afternoon.
Souza ended her afternoon with seven saves in net for the Highlanders, her third outing this season with at least seven.
